Post reblogged from Not The Blog You Are Looking For with 28 notes
I think the most interesting quote in this article was
“Don’t be scared about adding voice over and cool cinematic content,” he advised his audience, “but do be careful about adding lots of choice with consequence because that adds to QA cost and development cost and makes it hard to design everything.”
I feel this implies the storytelling in SW:TOR will move towards World of Warcraft’s style of sweeping your character along in larger plots (like the rise of the hutts) and away from character defining events like the end of the agent story’s choice (you know the one.) I am a little bit sad about this. Then again, most of the stories already dodged choices with consequences and railroaded you along as it is. (Think of that one sith warrior spoiler.) And there will always be headcanon.

When we launch our Free-to-Play option this Fall, it will include three ways of playing The Old Republic: as a Subscriber, as a Free-to-Play Player, or with Preferred Status! We have previously mentioned Preferred Player Status on our website (http://www.swtor.com/free/features) but have not really gone into details, something I plan to address here.
Once our Free-to-Play option launches, Free-to-Play Players will gain Preferred Player Status by making a single purchase through our website. This purchase can simply be a quantity of Cartel Coins, or a Game Time Card, or even a month of a Subscription. Additionally, former Subscribers who are returning as Free-to-Play Players, will find they have Preferred Status!
As a Preferred Status Player, you will gain the following benefits compared to Free-to-Play Players:
• The Sprint ability at Level 1
• Access to your Cargo Hold (an 80 item Player Bank)
• Access to Secure Trade (starting at level 10)
• The ability to send Mail, including one (1) attachment
• Increased allowance for chat message frequencies in Public chat channels (such as /general)
• An increased Credits Cap
• Access to the Who List
• Three (3) additional Sale Slots on the Galactic Trade Network (for a total of 5)
• One (1) additional active Crew Skill Slot (for a total of 2)
• Reduced skill point respecialization costs
• Increased Server queue priority
In addition to the above benefits, Subscribers who return as Preferred Status Players will find that they retain any Cargo Hold and Inventory expansions they had unlocked, any Legacy Unlock or Perk they have gained (including Species) and can continue to use any Artifact equipment that was bound to them previously.
Still no comment on number of characters though.

They rebooted the PTS and I got all my cartel coins again, so here are some more screenshots.
Loungewear, now with hat.
Lhosan Mantra (black mount)
Ubbrikian Crimson Claw (red mount)
Golden Lizardbat
Cartel Collector Title
Out of about 12 cartel packs, I also got two BoE weapons (the lightsaber with swirls, twice) a relic, a pink-purple crystal, two imperial banners, /menace (twice again), doubles of the Longspur Elite and Rendil Nightshade mounts, three recon droids, another mountain bat, and a bunch of boosts including a Social Points boost (!!!) that is not for sale in the normal cartel market.
So basically, having a lot of people to trade cartel pack contents with will be a good idea, because it is goddamn random.
Also I included a screenshot of the interface, so you can see buying perks for individual characters vs all your legacy, and the gifting option.

Patch 1.4 data dump or: “WHO WANTS A PET GIZKA!”
“…took a look at the latest SWTOR patch, currently on PTS, and extracted some interesting information. This is straight from the files, and may or may not be seen in 1.4. It is new stuff though, so take from it what you will. The output is pretty raw. Lots of F2P stuff though.”
Reddit suggests that if all of this stuff is in the patch, it will be activated at six week cycles. So they might not have a Gizka, Manka Cat, or Acklay minipet right off… but it’s coming.

Also, cartel coins (which you get just for being a subscriber AND for having been a subscriber) will allow you to buy more character slots. Dunno if this will be implemented at exactly the same time as F2P, but… more character slots!

I wish all chairs in cantinas and everywhere else were useable like on the bridges of the ships. It gets awkward not having a sitting emote that is actually relevant to the environment.
This, and hard. It’s really awkward to sprawl sideways on a barstool.
Don’t forget clipping into the couches, or even better: floating.

Goofing around in SM Denova. We killed Torn and Zoth in one shot. Stormcaller and Firebrand were glitchy and mean to us. What the hell is with these flowers.

Ridiculously close Novare Coast win.
This is what happens when half of the people in the warzone are high level healers.
